Construction of a tunnel portal :
I do not want the end of my layout to end just against the
wall,
so I 'm trying to let it end in a small tunnel. The dimensions are 40
cm of length and the same depth as the other segments, 80 cm.
The method of construction I describe here is only
the one I
use and is cetainly far from perfect and can be improved.
First , I make a drawing of the opening, based on the standard (NEM
105) described at www.miba.de/morop/ . Since this
is a
double track , the drawing has to be modified.
A wooden board serves as a support for the plaster molds. The different
parts are put together with white joint filler. The large bricks are
carved out of clay. The clay is applied to the wooden board
by
using white glue
When the clay is set, it is painted with Revell
steingrau
acrylic paint. Some joints are accentuated with a solution of black
paint and purified petrol. Its better to apply small quantities
of paint and look for the result after each application.
The inside of the tunnel in not ready and will be made of the
same plaster molds. The tunnel entrance should be a 'black hole'. I'm
not shure this wille be so since it's a double track and the opening is
relatively large.
